simply put: a design flaw of the Boeing 737 series which led to a slat mechanism to misposition and pierce the fuel tank, gas was then leak and ignited by the engine

Does anyone happen to know how this happened?
ChineseCommando (November 30, 1999 at 12:00 am)
Really? I though that this was a Chinese airline. THen again, I guess I was thinking of Air China...

There should have been fire engines at the scene immediatetly. I am disgusted with this airport for not responding as they should with such an incident. There are emergency procedures that were not put into effect until the situation was well out of control. I hope they were fined for this breach of air safety.

Incredible! Plane on fire and people walking towards it? Luckily the fire crews arrive in the nick of time. Perhaps there's a health & safety regulation like, if it's on fire it's too dangerous to put the flames out! Hmm?

how many times do i have to remind everyone that this is a Taiwanese airline and the accident took place in Japan?

The passengers have all escaped the plane and have departed on replacement flights by the time the fire crews arrive. Go communist China!
